Today was July 1st, the traditional start date for new interns. For me, it was my first day as an R2 (2nd year resident). It was also my first flight shift, but I didn’t have any flights. We were backed up all day on patients, with three new R2s working, one R3 and one new intern on his first day of residency. It was a little hectic. I took my first medical command call, met a cardiac arrest patient on the roof who had just been flown in, put on a splint or two, ordered lots of x-rays including C-spine films, and saw two motor vehicle accident patients. Tomorrow we’ll do it all again!
